Issue: Empowering Your Goals & Rethinking Social Media
Hey everyone,
I hope you’re having a great week so far! September is officially here which always bring a sense of shift and change within our lives. This edition of the newsletter is all about empowering you and your goals; whether that’s in creativity, health and wellness, or travel.
One thing I want to encourage you with this week is to build a roadmap for your life. Ask yourself:
Where do I want to be 12 months from now?
What steps do I need to take to get there?
Visualization combined with execution is everything. As we continue building this community, I’ll keep sharing what I’m learning on my own journey, especially around my media and social world, which I’ve been navigating since 2011.
I feel like a grandpa sometimes talking about the early days of Instagram (back when posts were only square, and you couldn’t even edit a caption). Things have changed a lot since then, from perfectly curated creative posts to today’s viral sensations of ear-cleaning videos and comedy skits.
Here’s the truth: the social media era is over.
These apps are no longer “social” in the way they used to be. They aren’t about sharing with the followers you’ve built over time. Instead, they’ve shifted into streaming platforms, where every scroll is a new “episode” designed to capture attention.
This is where the shift happens:
Social media is dead.
Welcome to Interest Media.
What you see in your feed isn’t based on who you follow, it’s based on what you’re interested in. Your Explore or For You Page reflects what grabs your attention, and the algorithm uses that to keep you engaged (and to sell ads).
What This Means for Creators
So what does this mean for you if you’re building a brand, business, or platform?
Niche Down
The more focused your message, the more the algorithm can connect your content with the right audience. If you’re in wellness, that means delivering the most useful, clear, and valuable insights you can. It’s Not About You. It’s About Them
In the old social era, posts were for our followers. Today, every piece of content is a chance for someone new to discover you. Content is no longer about “us” it’s about giving value to them.Embrace the New Normal
Consistency in performance is gone. Some posts will take off, others will fall flat and that’s okay. Don’t measure your worth by engagement. The only question that matters: is your content hitting the right people?
This Week’s Encouragement
As you create and share this week, remember:
You’re not posting for your followers, you’re posting for discovery.
Your content is an open door for someone new to meet you.
Your value isn’t in likes or views, it’s in the lives you impact.
The way forward is about shifting perspective. These platforms are no longer social media, they’re Interest Media and when we embrace that, we’ll find new ways to grow, connect, and thrive.
Stick around for more in the coming weeks as we dig deeper into building meaningful content, community, and purpose.
Until next time,
Scott
