The Power of Resolve

Resolve (noun):
A firm determination to do something; a strong decision or intention.

Resolve (verb):
To decide firmly on a course of action; to settle or find a solution to a problem or difficulty.

There is a point in all of our stories where we look back and wonder if things could have gone differently. We replay old conversations. We try to rewrite moments that have already been lived. We think that if we could just change one decision, one response, one chapter, maybe the outcome would be different.

But the past will never move. It stays where it is.

The only moment we truly hold is the here and now. What we choose to do with this moment is what determines whether we stay stuck or begin to move into our future. We can keep circling around regret, convincing ourselves that we should have been better, smarter, stronger. Or we can accept where we are, learn from it, and take a step forward.

Resolve is what allows us to move.

It is the simple and courageous decision to say:

This is where I am. This is what has happened. I cannot change it. But I can grow from it.

When we stop blaming, stop running the story on repeat, and stop wishing life had unfolded differently, something powerful happens. We begin to see what is possible. We shift from shame to growth, from regret to hope.

Resolve does not ignore what happened. It acknowledges reality and takes responsibility for our part. It invites us to self examine with honesty. It helps us ask better questions:

3 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF

What did I learn?

How can I grow?

What can I do differently next time?

And as hard as it can be, resolve also invites trusted voices into our lives. People who care about us. People who tell us the truth. Feedback that stings a little but has our best in mind. When we receive it with humility, reflect on it, and actually apply it, we get stronger than we ever imagined.

BREAKING THE LOOP

Resolve frees us from the story of yesterday. It gives us permission to build a new one.

No more endless loops of what could have been.

No more letting regret take hold.

No more believing the lie that the past defines our future.

Resolve says:

I am here. I am willing. I am learning. And I am moving forward.

Over the last couple of months, I have had a lot of time to reflect on my own personal journey. Separation brings grief. It makes you question what you could have done better. It makes you ask if things could have been saved. Some of those answers will never come.

But here is what I know.

I am here now.

I am choosing to grow.

I am choosing to move forward with intention.

There is no failure when you are committed to growth. The only true failure is refusing to learn, refusing to reflect, refusing to see your life as a gift with new opportunity each day.

When we resolve to step forward, we begin to build a new way of living.

We start to make different choices.

We build new habits.

We welcome new friendships.

We write new patterns into our lives that reflect who we are becoming.

Regret keeps us locked in yesterday.

Resolve invites us into tomorrow.

My encouragement for you today is simple.

Accept where you are.

Learn from what has been.

Lean into people who love you.

And take a step forward.

You are not stuck.

You are growing.

And that is enough.

Here is to the power of resolve. Here is to the courage to look ahead. And here is to a future built with intention.

We get to start again

Today.

Have a great week.

Scott
